Work In Progress: Dissolving Self v2
I have been working quietly for the past couple of months on an exciting project. Dissolving Self, a tech-enabled dance performance that I created last year with my friend Maziar Ghaderi (and some other great collaborators) will be presented in a new form at this year's International Symposium on Electronic Art – ISEA 2014 – in Dubai, UAE!
The first version of the project used a gyroscope, Kinect, and projector to augment the Sufi tradition of whirling. We presented it at HASTAC 2013 in Toronto, and we were quite pleased with the results. This time, however, we started from scratch and have created a new interpretation of the performance.
We've been playing with a lot of EL (electroluminescent) wire:
We partnered with Sonic Wear and are using their awesome SoMo device:
And we've been testing out some new visual styles for our projection:
I'm flying out to Dubai in a few days, so please follow my journey on Twitter, and check back here in a few weeks to see our documentation of the finished product!
